Same Month, Different Year

Same Month, Different Year

As we dragged through the lulls of February, I found myself in a very similar headspace as I was in this exact time last year. With the semester ramped up to speed, gray skies, and bone-chilling winds, it’s hard not to enter a strange malaise. What was particularly interesting about the exit of February 2023 was that I carried with me all my reflections from February 2022. I read through all my journals and forced myself to re-contextualize my feelings. This retrospection taught me how to change my headspace to a more positive one. Stuck inside? Take the time to work on passion projects. Finally a nice day? Go on a long run to breathe the fresh air and feel the sun for once. Long day in the library? Use it as an opportunity to improve capacity to focus without distraction. This was truly the first time that I used my past journaling as a resource to get through the present and push toward the future. As time passes and we step into new roles with novel challenges, I think it’s important to recognize how much we can use lessons from our past experiences to bring clarity to our current situations. I realize this isn’t a terribly profound concept, but I look forward to seeing how I may develop my ability to apply it and how it will help me in the future.

In other news, I finally launched the podcast that I had been hoping to start for months (another one of my goals for the year). I love that it’s a podcast about me and Jack, our relationship as brothers, and what we’re doing in life. Called “Our Tangled Minds,” the goal is to use our differences to foster a space of learning and creativity. I’m proud of what we’ve made and excited to see where it takes us both personally and professionally.

A short month behind calls for a shorter post, but a post nonetheless.

See you next one
